It’s the second Monday of the month and that means it’s time once again for our Inklings Radar listings! The latter half of September's offered a slower turnout on the call for submissions front, but that's to be expected with October bringing us "Promptober" and November coming after with National Novel Writing Month. In the meantime, check out these opportunities for a writing workshop and a writing competition looking for various forms of writing! Don't forget to also check out your event reminders below--two contests from the start of September close tomorrow. If you're still interested in submitting, now's your chance!

Reader Sign Up: Haunted Holidays


     Join WiVLA November 8th at 6:00 pm for a spirited evening of creativity, community, and celebration at Haunted Holidays!

Expect an evening filled with readings, conversation, and plenty of holiday spirit—with a haunted twist. Costumes and creative flair are welcome! Bring a friend, enjoy refreshments, and celebrate the season. The event is free and open to the public.

Event Type: Short Story Contest

Deadline: November 30, 2025

Entry Fee: $33.59

     The competition invites short story submissions of up to 8,000 words from writers of all genres. It aims to encourage creativity and provide feedback opportunities. Participants retain ownership of their work, with the winner receiving a cash prize along with chances to win in a bonus draw.

Event Type: Literary Award Contest

     The competition invites writers to submit short stories of up to 1000 words, excluding children's and young adult fiction. The entry fee varies based on the number of submissions. Winners will be announced in February 2026.

Event Type: Poetry Competition

     The Poetry International Prize is an annual contest to award a cash prize of $1000 and publication for a single poem of any length. Submissions are accepted via Submittable and all entries are considered for publication.

Event Type: Fiction Prize Contest

Deadline: November 30, 2025

Entry Fee: $15.00


     The Lascaux Prize in Short Fiction accepts both previously published and unpublished stories, allowing simultaneous submissions. The winner receives $1,000, a bronze medallion, and publication in The Lascaux Review.
