June 26th, 2026 Scribbles Open Mic For Comments, Questions and Requests!

Just as soon as summer vacation's begun, back to school preparations sneak up on our calendars! In the spirit of back to school spirit, here's a fun poll to consider. In my experience, every person I've ever met had a preference for what pairs of school subjects they preferred. English and history class, or math and science--one of our earliest examples of "left versus right brain" amidst our piers. One would think as writers we would prefer the former to the latter, but I've found that's not always the case. Interestingly, many writers I've met who preferred math and science tend to dabble in the fantasy and sci-fi genres.

Whether or not our preference in school subjects correlates at all with what genres we wrote late in life as authors is a conversation for another day. For now, cast your vote below and let us know which subject duo you preferred!
